Silver lining

Today was far from perfect... like really far!!!  But as I cleaned my kitchen tonight after all the bedlamites were asleep small memories came to my mind that put a smile on my face. I didn't want to forget them. I need to remember them for tomorrow, to help me keep on giving my all to my family. Chris is away for the work week (meaning 5 days) and it is only the end of day two! I am so determined to stay positive and happy and not just grit my teeth and dread every day but find joy in the journey.

Memories

Isabelle showing Grandma her "sharp teeth" repeatedly on FaceTime.

Abigail in the car on the way to the store got mixed up when saying shopping cart (yes a discussion always happens about where they will go in the store) and instead saying "copping shart" 😊

Olivia laughing when I was feeding her dinner.

Finding Abigail behind her bedroom door singing "let it go!"

Isabelle helping me load the dishwasher asking me where to put everything.

Giving my sleeping children kisses and stroking their hair out of their faces and stopping to feel their innocence and fair fine features.

Here is to hoping they all sleep through the night especially the two who actually kept me up last night 😊

My Thumb Sucker

About 4 weeks ago Olivia started taking a bottle. Much to my relief and return to normal happiness I began to wean her. Around the same time she wanted to suck all the time. I started occasionally giving her a soother but as it happened she started finding her thumb. I think it is the cutest thing almost ever. She LOVES it. It has made the transition out of swaddling FLAWLESS and that also makes me a happy Mom. The final thing that makes me a happy mom is that she hasn't woken up in the night for about a month. She was waking up once essentially since she was 8 weeks old and although I was fine with it I am SO pleased it is over!!! She wakes up so happy and is loving life!

And yes I admit I added two pictures just because I think she is a doll even though it has nothing to do with her sucking her thumb!

Bath Time

The girls have started having baths all together. Of course there is WAY less water while Olivia is in the tub, but the do have a blast. Olivia LOVES the water much like her big sisters. She is constantly kicking and splashing... and currently trying to roll over!

Snow Day?!?!

We don't often get snow here. BUT when we did get snow in perhaps November and I HAD NOTHING I knew I better get prepared. Well as luck would have it I found snow suits for the kids- jacket and pants- for $5!!! Normal price- $59.99! Of course I was a thinker and bought for the year ahead (or maybe 2 years ahead for Olivia).

Around the middle of January I thought I had missed out on having my kids play in snow this winter. Well as luck would have it (or not) I did have the opportunity to dress my stubborn child into something exactly the way I wanted it done. In the end it was worth it.

They had a blast. I mostly stayed inside.

Then we got snow again... and Chris was home so we made a snowman and had a snowball fight. They especially loved the snowball fight... and they started one the next day when I was shoveling the driveway.

Funny girls at play

Funny things that I have heard come out of my children's mouth in the last little while include:

"Mom look at my gold plates" said by Isabelle holding some coins she had stolen from my wallet!

"Good night sweetie" said by Isabelle kissing the front headlight on our "ban" as we walked away from it in the parkade and into the hotel.

"Swiper the fox took it, Mom?" said by Abigail as she questioned where the binkies had gone... me thinking on my feet saying, "yes" followed by her saying "in a hot air balloon with boots and Dora?" What else could I say but yes! Good BYE binkies, they both sobbed but then fell fast asleep!

Through sobs and screaming "I can't wear this skirt it doesn't spin Mom!" Abigail distraught that the skirt she picked out to wear wasn't flowing when she twirled around. A replacement was found and the twirling commenced.

"My boots are hurting my feet" said Abigail to which I replied, "keep them on until after the sacrament" to which she replies, "but Mom their squirking me!" I removed the boot because I knew she was saying they were squishing her and feet. Upon removal I found the missing 2 bite brownie I had given them as a treat before leaving to "toria" (Victoria) on Friday smashed all over her tights on her toes! She was a little concerned what it was and after I told her she whispered to her Dad, "there is brownie on my toes!"

"No touching the DBD's" said Isabelle to Olivia. (She really does know the rule of no touching the DVD's; so why does she do it all the time?!!!?!)

I think this set of pictures speaks for itself. Playing with each other that lasted more than a minute and I captured some gems!

Olivia LOVES to jump!!

Probably my best parenting moment of the month- setting them up to give their dolls a bath! (while I cleaned the house) They were starting to do it in the real bathtub I knew a mess would be made- double kitchen sink to the rescue!

Olivia is REALLY starting to love being on the floor- even more than in the Jumparoo. Sadly this means she is less safe from her sisters.

This was a Teddy Bear picnic. Every ONE was invited. Sadly it lasted less than 10 minutes.

Inn at Laurel Point

Chris gets a text Thursday night at 6:30 asking him to take the next day off and go to Victoria to work Saturday, Sunday and Monday with the idea posed to take the family and make a family trip out of it (they know us well). We had several concerns. MAINLY that it was a coveted weekend off. We are still adjusting (a year later) to Chris having to work every other weekend. So we talked about it and ensured that he would be able to attend church with me and decided we would GO! I needed a change of scene. This provided it.

Later that night I feared we had very much made the wrong decision.

Friday we left and got to the hotel around 4, after picking up Chris's rental car (I refused to be carless or drive two cars down: which left a rental car as the only option as he had to be at work as early as 4am while we were there). Our first look into the room we knew we had made a good decision.

Bathroom stocked with Aveda products :)

Tip: when travelling with kids ALWAYS get a separate bedroom and some sort of kitchen:)

Friday night we ordered from Brown's Social House. Chris picked it up. We scarfed it down with Ali and Roly and Violet; opened the door to find Marnie and Sam on the other side and headed to the POOL!!! The girls are NOT used to sharing a bed. Lesson learned. (I knew this BUT thought it might be different now) and I woke up to hear them whispering to each other at 3:40. I went and told them it was time to go to sleep and Abigail said, "Mom I can't, we're talking!" Eventually I ended up falling asleep with them.

Saturday I knew Olivia needed at least one nap of normalcy. So we headed out after her morning nap... as we were leaving I realized I FORGOT (or lost... haven't found them at home yet) my LEGGINGS... and had NO outfits to wear. So I slapped on a pair of pants and my longer jacket and set off to the mall. I met Chris and he brought me a Strawberries and Cream Frappuccino (knowing I was having a rough moment) which he got for free as the Starbucks employees were in training and giving them away free (inside the Target that is just about to open). I purchased another pair of pants and made a mad dash out to Langford to get my butt into the Play Zone (much like Jumpin' Jimminies in Nanaimo) to meet up with Ali. It was pouring rain, the first weekend of spring break, and as such had about 100 kids in there with about 5 birthday parties happening at once!!! As soon as I got there I wanted to RUN away. I got Olivia in the carrier and the girls set off. They had a BLAST. They got rosy cheeked and sweaty heads! They were so cute together. Usually they split up a little but not this time. They were always a few seconds within each other running past me.  I feared leaving the whole time I was there. How would I manage a tantrum. Thankfully not a flinch after I paid a dollar to have them ride the carousal. Saturday night they slept like angels. I had put Isabelle to sleep on the chaise tucked up against the couch so she wouldn't fall asleep. Genius!

Sunday morning went off with out a hitch! As we were walking down across the lobby the girls were remarking at the sun and how they would need glasses to keep their eyes protected. Well little did we know that the valet man was listening. He said to them I have some glasses would you like some. They got the cutest glasses (which they left behind at Ali's house and got two  new pairs Monday morning). Church was GREAT. We were able to see most of our old YSA Branch Presidency and it was heavenly to me. Sunday we had dinner with friends and it was delicious and great to catch up with friends. It was perfect!

SUNDAY NIGHT was AWFUL. The girls went to sleep immediately... BUT Isabelle kept waking up (not NORMAL for her) and crying. I was cuddling her, she would still wake up. NOTHING was working. Finally at 2:30 she passed out with her Dad. She slept until 6 and I found her on the potty. Then back asleep until 7. She puked. And then stopped crying and started talking. WHAT a relief to stop hearing the incessant crying with no communication. Chris didn't go to work. We decided to get the heck out of there. I had been promised room service breakfast. So I got it. I ordered it for the girls too because we had forgot to get groceries for breakfast for them.

WELL.

Chris was mad at how much it cost. I didn't care. But was mad at him for caring.

It arrives...

It has the BC ferries plastic lids on a dinky little tray. NOT what I expected. Not what I felt I paid for. As I was lifting my plate off BOOM the lid slips off and my EGGS go FLYING under the table. The girls pour copious amounts of salt on their food while I am cleaning up and Chris is in the other room...WHERE is the fabulous tray table with the fancy flowers AND silver lids?!?!?!?!?!! It was a nice hotel. It should have been WAY better. The jams and ketchup jars were adorable... I kept them all.

He felt vindicated. I was so upset. My luxury of the weekend. WASTED.

It was a gorgeous day Monday and we were SO upset to leave early. We got home and were glad to be home.

Today Chris called me to tell me he has a 3 day weekend this weekend AND next weekend off! Truly a fantastic reward and perfect timing for our life.

I could use daily housekeeping!!! It was HEAVENLY!!!

The girls now think we need to put our car to sleep because it gets tired (thanks to parkade parking)!!

Graduation

Chris attended his graduation ceremony January 31, 2014. I feel like an awful wife who got there just in time and forced him to leave RIGHT after and therefore got NOT a single close up shot with him. Oops.

I suppose I must confess that I am extremely proud of him for the work he put into getting these degrees. He was so busy during all of it and did a fantastic job at managing all titles placed on his head during the 2.5 years: husband, father, brother, son, student, boss and leader.

I couldn’t be more proud than I am. Little did we know the great things that living in Nanaimo would bring to us. The opportunities presented to our family because of this education have been outstanding.

Isabelle and Abigail pray every prayer on the food that they give that they are “grateful daddy at work” (hehe they really do love him) and a few times Abigail has prayed being “grateful mommy stays home.” Now where she picked this up, and what this really means to her is yet to be decided (I swear we are worst enemies sometimes), but for now it warms my heart that I am able to be here with them. I am grateful for the benefits of Chris's education to our families life.

Winter Beach Day

Determined to be not so "indoorsey" this winter I have actually taken my kids on walks (okay 3 in two day) and to the beach (maybe 3 times) and to the park a few more times... One day Chris was with us so I brought the camera along.
Things of note. Abigail is ALWAYS wearing a dress...usually with "tight pants" aka leggings. AND always has to choose what she is wearing even if it means a coat that is too small (thanks DAD!). The fur lining on my coat is apparently HUGE!! And last but not least Olivia is a doll!

The day we went to the beach it was gloriously sunny and warm. When we drove down to the beach it got SO foggy it was remarkably beautiful.
